Vietnam is a beautiful country and is becoming a popular destination. Some Vietnam attractions are famous as natural world wonders. For this reason, we present you the best places to visit in Vietnam.

Vietnam Offers a Lot of Landscapes

Vietnam is a country that offers many different landscapes. In Vietnam, you can find beautiful, turquoise-blue beaches and at the same time endless mountain landscapes which can be higher than 3000 meters. Even a desert can be found in the south of Vietnam.

In addition to the impressive landscape in Vietnam, there is also a lot of cultures to see. Vietnam is shaped by an interesting history and impressive culture, which makes it even more interesting as a tourist destination!

Ha Long Bay

Ha Long Bay

Ha Long Bay is located in northwestern Vietnam and is perhaps the most famous tourist attraction in Vietnam. As one of the natural wonders of the world, every year it attracts huge numbers of tourists who want to discover the beauty of this place.

Ha Long Bay consists of thousands of limestone islands covered by the green rainforest. Popular here are kayaking and boat tours that lead you through the cliffs and provide access to beautiful little islands. Of course, dives shouldn’t be missed!

The best way to reach Ha Long Bay is to book a tour from Hanoi. You will be picked up directly from your housing in Hanoi and taken to the Vietnamese coast. There are tours that last only one day and bring you back to the hotel in the evening. But there are even tours that take two or three days.

Sapa

Sapa

Sapa is perhaps the most impressive and breathtaking place Vietnam has to offer. It’s located in the Hoàng Liên Son Mountains, in the northwest of Vietnam. Sapa is famous for hiking and trekking tours, where you can enjoy the landscape.

The city is located over endless rice terraces and not far from the top of the Fansipan – a 3143 meter high mountain, which is also the highest mountain in Vietnam. Online or on-site you can book multi-day tours that lead you right across the Hoàng Liên Son Mountains.

What makes Sapa interesting is the culture it has to offer. Much of the native population consists of hill tribes like the Hmong, Tay and Dao. Often it is also possible to get to know these Vietnamese hill tribes by booked tours.

If you travel to Vietnam, you should definitely visit Sapa, because it is definitely one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam and a must-see Vietnam attraction.

Ha Giang Loop

Ha Giang Loop

The Ha Giang Loop is another famous Vietnam attraction. Ha Giang is known for the motorcycle and scooter tours, through the Ha Giang Loop. The easiest way is to book a tour online or in Hanoi. Those who prefer to book online should try GetYourGuide. If you prefer to book locally, you can usually do that in your housing in Hanoi.

Booking a tour through the Ha Giang Loop saves a lot of stress, but is also more costly. In most cases the tours that are offered last three or four days, which cost between 150 and 220 euros. If that’s too expensive, the tour can be organized by yourself.

In Hanoi you can easily rent motorcycles and scooters. This can be done directly in your housing, which can also help you with the planning of the route. Then it can start. Traffic in Vietnam is very different from that in Europe. Especially in Hanoi, which can be very stressful at first. But once you get out of the city, you rarely meet other drivers.

Hanoi

Hanoi

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and is known for its ancient architecture, tight streets and Vietnamese food. Especially Pho is a world-famous dish that you can find for just one euro, anywhere in Vietnam!

The culture and strong growth in Hanoi are attracting more and more expats and international companies to Hanoi. The city has a very special atmosphere that some people love and others hate.

Hanoi is also popular for the many activities and day trips that are possible from there. It’s easy to get to Vietnam’s highlights like Sapa, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh or Ha Giang. This makes Hanoi probably the most visited place in Vietnam.

In 2020, the first Formula 1 race in Vietnam will take place in Hanoi, which is a big sensation for Hanoi, but also for Vietnam.

Da Nang

Da Nang

Since I made Da Nang myself as my center of life and spend most of my time here, it is obvious that I am a big fan of this beautiful city.

Da Nang is a city that is especially interesting for longer stays. The prices are relatively cheap, the lifestyle is very relaxed, the food is good and much more. More about that I wrote in the article “6 Reasons Why I Am Living in Da Nang”!

In addition to the benefits of Da Nang as a center of life, this city also has a lot to offer for tourists. Next to My Khe Beach, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (according to Forbes), Da Nang is also surrounded by beautiful mountains.

These allow great day trips for example to Son Tra Peninsula or the Hai Van Pass, which became one of the most famous Vietnam attractions after it was mentioned in Top Gear!

Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh Saigon

Ho Chi Minh or Saigon is the richest city in Vietnam and the center in terms of economy, development and entrepreneurship. For tourists, it is a well-known stop, but not nearly as interesting as the other places on this list.

The city is known for its development and the many companies and business people that are here. If you want to make some business contacts besides traveling, Ho Chi Minh City is the right spot.

For tourists, especially traffic is interesting, which reflects the typical traffic chaos in Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh has the largest traffic volume in Vietnam and can be really overwhelming.

My absolute favorite thing to do and see in Ho Chi Minh is the National War Museum. The history of Vietnam is super interesting and well-illustrated, even if a few negative facts about Vietnam are shown.

The ticket prices are, like everything else in Vietnam, super cheap and make the visit even more interesting. Even those who usually avoid museums will spend an informative afternoon at the National War Museum in Ho Chi Minh!

Da Lat

Dalat

Da Lat is definitely one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam and should not miss on any list of Vietnam attractions. The small city is located in the southern part of central Vietnam in the middle of the mountains. Because of that Da Lat is much cooler than other places in Vietnam, which most tourists, but also Vietnamese, feel very pleasant.

In addition, Da Lat is considered the most romantic city in Vietnam and is a very popular destination especially for couples. The city has its own atmosphere and is for me one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam.

In Da Lat you can spend some relaxing days. You can walk through the beautiful city, drink in the cafes the world-famous Vietnamese coffee and enjoy the view on the lake.

The fact that Da Lat is located in the mountains, you can make great scooter tours through the mountains and visit a few tourist spots.

Hoi An

Hoi An

Hoi Ans old town is famous all over the world today. The fact that Hoi An was once a French colony is reflected in the architecture and style of the houses. Mixed with the Chinese-inspired temples and lights, as well as the “Japanese Bridge” completely different cultures are meeting each other.

This mixture of cultures sounds strange at first. But in reality, these cultures are a perfect match. The unique style Hoi Ans, especially made the old town very famous, which unfortunately has led to a very strong mass tourism.

Unfortunately, Hoi An is the most visited of the Vietnam attractions. If you want to look at Hoi An’s old town at night, you can barely move freely, because thousands of tourists spread out in the small streets to see the lights that have become famous on Instagram.

It is recommended to visit Hoi An very early in the morning and once in the evening. When I arrived in Hoi An by bus, it was five o’clock in the morning. After I left my things in my housing, I then immediately started to explore the city, which was completely empty at this early time.

Qui Nhon

Qui Nhon

Qui Nhon is one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam and is unknown to most Vietnam travelers. The coastal town has a beautiful beach and a great atmosphere.

Who wants to have a break from the tourist crowds, is in good hands in Qui Nhon! The place is still not very touristy, which is why the locals are also very friendly here. For them it is unusual to meet foreigners, which you can notice in their welcome behavior.

Besides the fact that Qui Nhon is still an authentic Vietnamese city, it is simply one of the most beautiful cities you will find in Vietnam. If you’re a fan of fish, you’ll feel extra comfortable here, because it’s so fresh here like nowhere else in Vietnam!

Ninh Binh

Ninh Binh

Ninh Binh is a province in the north of Vietnam and not far from Hanoi. The not very touristy area has become very popular in recent years.

This is, in addition to many impressive Instagram images, especially caused by many films that were shot here. The most famous of these is “Kong: Skull Island,” which was released in 2017, and is the largest film project ever filmed in Vietnam.

The nature in Ninh Binh is unique and next to Sapa there are the best views in Vietnam. Here you can get an insight into the typical Vietnamese country life and compared to Sapa, you will also find a few places without large crowds.

Be sure to check out the cliffs in the Three Caves of Tam Coc, the Trang-An Cave and the Cuc Phuong National Park.

Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park

Phong Nha Cave

The Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park, is another insider tip, the most beautiful places and Vietnam attractions. The National Park is not too far away from Ninh Binh and is a good stop if you traveling from Da Nang to Ninh Binh or Hanoi.

Similar to Ninh Binh, beautiful landscapes with mountains, cliffs, valleys and rivers are waiting for you. In addition, Phong Nha has fewer tourists than Ninh Binh or other attractions in Vietnam, making it a very interesting place for anyone looking to get away from the many tourists in Vietnam.

Famous is the Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park for its cave, which is almost 8 km long, with only 1.5 km accessible to tourists.

Another cave in the Phong Nha National Park is the Son Doong Cave, which is the largest cave in the world! However, to visit them you have to spend a fair amount of money. Who wants to save the 3000 euros, can simply visit the “normal” Phong Nha cave.

Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc

We arrived at the last place on our list of the most beautiful sights and attractions of Vietnam. Phu Quoc is a Vietnamese island off the coast of Cambodia and the Gulf of Thailand.

The island has become very popular due to the blue water, white sand beaches and many palm trees. There are many resorts where you can spend a relaxing week, so a typical Maldives holiday.

Interesting about the island is that it is half covered with rainforest and mountains. This offers you the opportunity to do a hiking tour. The largest city in Phu Quoc is Duong Dong. There are great markets and fresh fish.

In addition to the beaches in Phu Quoc, Vietnam has many more beaches to visit. Take a look at our article on “Vietnam beach holidays — Where you should go!”.
